The Interdependenceof Different Varnas ===================================== The organizational structure of the Varna system has been so constituted that the different Varnas cannot but be inter-dependent. Moreover, it embodies such a happy adjustment that none can ignore another by being unbalanced on account of pride caused by honour, political authority, economic resources or physical strength. The Vipra occupies a unique position of reverence and honour due to his renunciation, moral excellence and superior service. His wields a great influence over the society. But this Vipra has hardly any material wealth in his hands. People are his only assets. On one side, he enjoys enormous social esteem, but he has to embrace a life of voluntary poverty. And he has to depend for his subsistence on the loving oblations of people. So, social dignity does seldom get any scope to make him unbalanced. The Kshatriyas are the kings. They have tremendous power in their hands. But they are not the owners of wealth. The economic power mainly belongs to the Vaishya. Moreover, a king will have to conduct his administration under the guidance of a selfless Vipra or a God-realized man. So, royal power can hardly make him insolent. Again, though the Vaishyas own material resources, they will have to submit the dictates for Brahminical and martial authority. Otherwise, they will have to be subjected to social and political chastisement. So, in the Varnashramic society the Vaishya cannot afford to move according to his sweet will though he possesses money. And though the Sudras are endowed with tremendous physical strength, they will have to use it for the benefit of the society. So, a compete harmony and co-ordination exists in the social organism as it has to exist in our physical system. As brain, heart, lungs, liver, spleen and different organs mutually uphold, protect, help, and fulfill one another and thus maintain their existence intact by contributing to the life and vigour of the entire system, so also the harmonious and co-operative move of different Varnas serve to maintain themselves and also the entire Varnashramic society intact. WAY OF ACHEIVING SELF-CONTROL (Discourses with an Indian seer Sri Sri Thakur Anukulchandra) ===================================== Question: What is the way of acheiving self-control? Thakur: At first we have to understand the need of self-control. We see that the reason behind self-control is the want for our Being. We want our Being. Whatever we do in lieu of our Being is our Pravritti or Passion. If we loose the existence, then we can not enjoy the passions(enjoyment of passion here means meaningful adjustment of passion). Passion lies in the shelter of Being. Hence the passions should be enjoyed in such an adjusted way that they do not hamper the nourishment of the Being. There comes the concept of Self-control. Suppose I am greedy of sweets. I want to consume sweets but do not want to get consumed by them. When passion exploits our Being, then we have to resist. This is called (Self) control. But this can not be done by words alone. When the passion strengthens it's clutches, then it becomes nearly impossible to control. That's the reason, that above everything, there is Love. If there is active adherence towards the Ideal,then our passions also serve HIM. Hence, surrender (to the Ideal) is so much needed. Then we feel bad to do anything against the will of Ideal. Even we stop thinking those things which are against HIS wishes. If you carefully observe a devout child, a chaste wife and a master-loving dog, you shall see how easy and spontaneous is self-control in their lives. They do not have to try hard for this. And it is this kind of self-control which persists. Otherwise, to do self-control by force, some unwanted incident may occur at any moment. The passions should also be fulfilling to each other. IF each and every passion doesn't fulfill each other, if there is conflict within them, if they are kept as in a water compartment (in various sections), If they lack adjustment among them, if they do not serve the Being by mutual assistance towards each other,then there is no self control. If any of the above things are violated, then the whole Being is endangered. Therefore, with all the passions, one should love and serve the Ideal. That makes the passions integrated and well-adjusted. This is the simple path as I understand. To love HIM, serve HIM and please HIM is my duty. What more do I want? Ref. Story of a clove : Alertness in every action Thakur Anukulchandra used to take clove as a mouth-freshener. Once at Deoghar, while taking a clove (along with few betel-nut pieces), accidentrally it fell down somewhere in the ground. Thakur became anxious and started searching that single clove. People around Thakur also joined to search that clove. Evening was knocking and hence people had to arrange 2-3 torchlights too. Is it that much important to put so much time for a simple clove when plenty of such was easily available ! Finally, after 50 minutes, Thakur only got that clove from a fold of the ground-black-carpet. It was indeed a great relieve for him and all! Thakur used to tell – we should not neglect any small thing. The habit of negligence will invite greater trouble in near future. Also, Thakur used to tell – if something is stolen from your house, it’s insult for you. You were not alert. Thakur wanted highest level of alertness of all of our sensory organs for the life-n-growth. {Ref : Book "Priyaparam" (1st edition) by Sri Debiprasad Mukherjee}

SIGNS OF PRATILOMA (HYPOGAMOUS) OFFSPRINGS {Discourses of an Indian seer: Sri Sri Thakur Anukulchandra} ===================================== The offsprings of Pratiloma marriage are just like hens. If one of them is culled, the other thinks, 'It does not concern me. Why should I worry?' They are unable to understand that in this way, everyone is going to be killed. They do not have this much of foresightedness. How shall they have foresightedness? When a man is blinded by selfish ego, he can not do anything which fulfills the self. To be blinded by selfish ego means to go against one's own self. That is called obsession. The Pratiloma offsprings can never be united. To be united requires submission towards the Ideal, towards the values, which they naturally lack. Where the parents themselves have betrayed against the Ideal, the values, what more can you expect from their children? Their very 'make up' (structure) itself is of anti-existential type. Hence, no matter how much one tries, they can not be rectified. If good 'metal' is not there, how can you do anything good? They are simply incurable and along with them, those who are good, if they also come in contact with them, their downfall is also ensured. That is the reason that the scriptures and the society have kept them as an outcaste. This is not out of hatred, but this system has been incorporated as a measure of self defense. If this much strictness were not there, everything would have gone to doom. Not a single thing could be found pure. Nowadays, Jihad has been declared against the orthodoxy but it is hard to describe in words how badly we are in need of Ideal-centric orthodoxy. Manu has told, "Jatra twete Pariddwansa Jayante Varnadushakah, Rashtrikyahe saha Tadrashtram kshiprameva vinashyati." Our society and the scriptures have banished and resisted the Pratiloma marriage and have side by side encouraged the Anuloma marriage. The Anuloma offsprings are like Hyenas. If one of them is attacked, all of them come to resist that. Ref.[Alochana Prasange, 11/1/1946]

Thakur's LOVE for a street-dog : Once, the keen disciple of Thakur Anukulchandra, Prafulla Kumar Das-da convinced his close friend to come to Deoghar Satsang Ashram to meet and discuss with Thakur. His name was Manoranjan Das (a cadre of IAS or Indian Administrative Service). The day, Manoranjan-da met Thakur, Thakur was deeply upset. With heavy heart Thakur told him – I am not in a positon to talk to you! That dog (a street-dog, suffering from cold-n-fever) died yesterday. I could not cure him though tried....Ishould have done more.....I should have taken more care ! Prafulla-da felt embarrassed as he was hoping that Thakur will talk with his friend generously. When Prafulla-da expressed sorry to his friend, then Manoranjan-da told – What I saw today, that is far beyond my expectation ! What a feeling and love of Thakur for a neglected street-dog too ! I am returning with an everlasting memory….! (From Manilal Chakraborty)

" We should maintain the secrecy for the aim of doing betterment of the people . It should be expressed through acti- vities but not in words .The people wil not accept you , - if you say ' come, I will work for your betterment ' - people will not accept it. Even they refuse to take 'Amrito' (nector of heaven ) if it is given directly to them . Our aim is to give them Amrito , not openly but secretly with loving manner."
